Project procedure feasibility study

We would be happy to help you identify and evaluate the future potential of your biogas plant. The attractiveness of switching to biomethane feed-in, for example, is systematically determined in four categories in order to derive an overall result and specific recommendations for action.

A

Technology

  1. Current technical condition and value of the plant
  2. New investments required for conversion to biomethane/LNG
  3. Historical utilisation over the last 3 years
B

Value creation

  1. Assessment of the substrate situation, the plant and the region
  2. Identification of suppliers and customers
  3. Calculation of the expected THG quota
C

Project implementation

  1. Development and analysis of the technical rough concept
  2. Indicative assessment of the approval situation
  3. Overview of material flows at the plant
D

Finance

  1. Historical economic efficiency of the biogas plant
  2. Profitability analysis of the current situation
  3. Profitability analysis of future scenarios

Procedure

Technology

First, the current situation is assessed and a rough outline of the future scenario is sketched out.

  • Overview of the key technical parameters of the biogas plant
  • Technical description of the possible future concept
  • List of necessary repair measures and investments for further development
  • Evaluation of the material from a technical perspective
  • Review of past plant performance

Value creation

The sales and substrate situation on site is then analysed.

  • Assessment of existing substrate supply contracts and own production volumes
  • Assessment of possible additional substrate purchases locally
  • Assessment of the sales situation for physical end products (LNG/LCO2)
  • Establishment of a substrate mix for operations
  • Calculation of the expected GHG quota

Project implementation

The expansion options are outlined in broad terms and their technical feasibility is initially assessed.

  • Examination of suitable sites for project implementation
  • Identification of material flows (from substrate to end product)
  • Development of an indicative timeline
  • Indicative initial assessment of the approval situation (validation by a lawyer not included)

Finances

Finally, a profitability analysis is compared with the as-is performance.

  • Review and assessment of historical economic performance
  • Preparation of a profitability analysis for future business models
  • Comparison of the new models with electricity generation
  • Provision of financial data in Excel

Result

Finally, all categories are evaluated and an overall result and recommendation for action are derived.

1. SWOT analysis

  • Summary of the existing strengths and weaknesses of the location
  • Assessment of possible risks in the implementation of the project

2. Overall result

  • Summarisation of all partial results in an overview
  • Read as an ‘executive summary’ with all relevant information
  • Comparison of attractiveness with other projects (optional)

3. Recommended action

  • Comparison of the individual options for continuation
  • Derivation of overarching recommendations for action
  • Transparent, objective assessment of how to deal with a location
